Ιt all began with one man and his love for the land. Mr. Giorgos Korkidas was born in Salakos, Rhodes, in 1939. From an early age, he worked tirelessly in the fields, as did all children of his generation. At the age of twelve, as he vividly recalls, he was already ploughing the land with a plough drawn by oxen. As he grew older, he tried his luck abroad and found himself working in the dark tunnels of Belgium’s coal mines. Yet his love for his homeland eventually brought him back. His need to feel free, independent, and close to nature led him once again to his village and his land. He cultivated many different crops, but his greatest passion had always been the vineyard. At the time, he grew table-grape varieties in rows and on overhead trellises: Rozaki and Akouno—the local Rhodian name for the Sultanina grape.

Wine grape varieties were planted in 2000, and the harvest was initially sold to wineries across Rhodes. In 2005, winemaking equipment was acquired and the first experimental vinifications began, laying the foundations for the Rodostagma and Anthokipos wines. In 2015, the new generation became actively involved in the venture. Greater access to knowledge through technology brought increased expertise and led to more ambitious winemaking projects, including the red wine Gousternes, natural sparkling Pét-Nat wines, and sparkling wines produced through secondary fermentation in the bottle. To this day, the older and younger generations continue to work side by side, constantly raising the standards of traditional winemaking.
